2024 web design trends: what is still useful?

A visually minimal layout still needs understandable controls and enough information to make a decision. Use labels and familiar behaviour where they help. Test with relevant users and assistive technologies rather than treating a clean screenshot as proof of accessibility.

Protect performance as the design grows

Prepare images at useful sizes, load nonessential media when needed and limit work that keeps running out of view. Check fonts and layout shifts during a cold load as well as after the page has settled.

Google’s Core Web Vitals guidance describes measures for loading, responsiveness and visual stability. Use appropriate lab checks during development and genuine field data where available. A good result on one computer does not establish how every visitor experiences the site.
